SBSSV snowsport instructor education - structure and sequence:
How do I become a snowsport, ski or snowboard instructor? What do I have to do?
The SBSSV offers interested persons so-called "ski instructor courses, level 1". These are:
Participants receive a practical as well as theoretical instruction for teaching adults and kids of ski & snowboard classes V (aim: turns) as well as slightly advanced skiers & snowboarders (aim: basics of carving).
The snowsport instructor level 1 can teach these group levels in any of Salzburg's Ski & Snowboard Schools.
After successful completion of the ski instructor courses level 1 and a minimum 24-days practical teaching experience in one of Salzburg's Ski & Snowboard Schools, interested instructors may take the next level course snowsport instructor level 2, part 1. The participants receive a 10-day practical as well as theoretical instruction for adult and kids in ski & snowboard classes V to III.
This instruction includes a 3-day snowboard instruction (1st to 3rd day on snow - will be obsolete if snowboard instructor level 1 has been successfully completed) and a 1-day NewSchool ski instruction (4th day on snow).
After successful completion of the snowsport instruction level 2, part 1 and a minimum of 24-days practical teaching experience in one of Salzburg's Ski & Snowboard Schools, interested instructors may take the next level, the snowsport instructor level 2, part 2. During this 15-days course, participants will have a theoretical as well as practical instruction regarding adult and kids teaching of ski & snowboard classes up to group II. This instruction programme also includes a 1-day NewSchool (1st day on snow) and a 5-days snowboard instruction (will be obsolete if snowboard instructor level 1 has been successfully completed).
Before or after the snowsport instructor level 2, part 2, the SBSSV offers an Alpine course to interested instructors. In theoretical and practical lessons, participants will learn during this 7-days instruction to lead and to guide ski and snowboard groups on open slopes and ski routes as well as free skiing and variation skiing (close to marked pistes with skilifts). After successful completion of the Alpine course, ski and snowboard instructors are snowsport instructors level 2, part 2 and may participate in the snowsport instructor level 3 course. This Austrian-wide instruction course is offered, organised and conducted by the BSPA BundesSport Akademie Innsbruck.
